Connecticut Opiate Rehab Facilities

Connecticut is now widely known for the rates of substance abuse and addiction. Like the rest of the United States, it is particularly struggling with high rates of opioid use disorders and related overdose deaths among its residents.

Opioid Abuse in Connecticut

The state of Connecticut has reported high rates of drug overdose deaths linked to opioid drugs. In 2017 and 2018, these rates remained relatively steady. For instance, a total of 948 deaths were reported as being linked to opioids in 2018. This was at a rate of 27.5 deaths among every segment of 100,000 people in the state.

The same year, the overdose deaths involving heroin and prescription opioids declined to a total of 338 deaths (or 9.9 deaths for every segment of 100,000 people) and 231 (or 6.4 deaths for every segment of 100,000 people) respectively.

Similarly, fatalities linked to synthetic opioids apart from methadone - particularly fentanyl and its various analogs - increased. In 2018, the state reported 767 deaths at a rate of 22.5 deaths for every segment of 100,000 people.

These figures are high and it is not surprising especially considering that that year health care professionals and medical service providers issued 43 prescriptions for opioid medications for every segment of 100 people. However, this number was higher than the total national averages of 51.4 prescriptions for opioids written for a similar segment of the national population.

NOWS and NAS Rates in Connecticut

NOWS refers to Neonatal Opioid Withdrawal Syndrome while NAS refers to Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome. These conditions occur when women take opioid drugs when they are expecting a child.

In 2017, the state of Connecticut reported an incidence rate for these disorders of 9.7 cases for every segment of 1,000 births that occurred in its hospitals. The number could, of course, be higher when the numbers of births that did not occur in hospitals are also considered.

Addiction Treatment in Connecticut

The Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services in Connecticut provides resources that local citizens can use to access the services and programs that they need to overcome their dependence on, tolerance for, and addiction to drugs and alcohol.

These services vary from one region to the next. However, they tend to include intermediate residential, intensive residential, and long term rehabilitation services and programs. The state also boasts of many facilities offering aftercare and outpatient rehabilitation and treatment services.

The goal of this state department is to reduce and prevent the rates of substance abuse and addiction that occur in Connecticut. It does this by using a recovery oriented approach to help people who have already been diagnosed with a substance use disorder.

In the same way, the state has a Probate Court that loved ones can visit in case they wish to petition for someone struggling with an addiction to be forced by the legal system to check into an addiction treatment and rehabilitation program or center.

Irrespective of the types of drugs that you have been abusing, checking into a drug or alcohol addiction recovery and treatment center in Connecticut can help you get started on the road to long term health, wellness, and sobriety.
